Chamonix is a must visit for any trail runner. It sits at the foot of the majestic snow covered peak of Mt Blanc which towers over the town, standing 4810m tall. Chamonix hosts the world famous UTMB (Ultra-Trail du Mont Blanc) race and is a mecca for professional trail running athletes and the buzz of the town and the beauty of the trails provide an inspiring backdrop to this Intermediate Alps trip, a follow up to our Introduction to the Alps weekend. On this holiday we provide a 2 full day running adventure break aimed at those looking to build on their experience and ability of running in the mountains. Being out on the trails for most of the day provides us with more time to explore some of the higher trails that sit above the Chamonix valley, all of which offer stunning views and great balcony routes. It also means we can go further away from Chamonix centre to explore other trails and maximise your time in the valley. Our local, experienced, trail running guides will lead the group as a team along these trails. Along the way your guide will also look at some of the trail techniques such as mastering the uphills and downhills that will make you a more proficient trail runner and also provide lots of interesting information about this incredibly diverse mountain environment. Each of our guides are experienced at trail running, both in racing, often placing highly in local and world trail events, as well as solo adventures, so it's an excellent opportunity to ask questions and get some inside tips on how to succeed at trail running in the mountains. It's impossible not to be inspired running along trails offering such breath taking views of Mt Blanc as well as the Aiguilles (needles)! You will be out on the trail for around 6 hours each day, including a stop for lunch. Since we want you to enjoy the best that Chamonix has to offer, you will be staying in a 4* spa hotel with access to a pool and other amenities so you can unwind and enjoy the views whilst receiving a well earnt rest. On the Friday evening we will meet up for dinner with your guide as well as some of the Run the Wild Team and enjoy a meal together in a reputable restaurant in Chamonix. As with all Run the Wild holidays, all you need to do is turn up and run - we will take care of the rest!

A deposit of £200 will be taken at the time of sign-up with the balance taken 6 weeks before the trip is due to start. It is also possible to schedule payments following your deposit to make paying for the trip easier.

Accommodation & Transport

2 nights in a 4* spa hotel at Le Refuge des Aiglons including breakfast each morning and an evening meal at one of Chamonix's highly rated restaurants. This is on a twin sharing basis, unless you have requested a single room (which if available, will be at a supplement). Amenities include the spa which has a heated outdoor pool, hot tub, steam room and sauna, the hotel also has an outdoor space to relax in and free WiFi. It’s located in the centre of Chamonix. Transport to/from Chamonix via Geneva can be booked via one of the many minibus operators (e.g. Chamexpress, Mountain Drop-Offs, Alpybus or Easybus) that provide a regular shuttle service, if you are a group we can arrange this and can be added to your invoice.

This holiday is aimed at runners who are looking to be out on the trails for most of the day and perhaps have already visited the Alps before or taken part in our Introduction to the Alps weekend previously. Since trail running in the Alps is a blend of hiking and running, please be prepared to walk uphills (sometimes for up to 1 hour) and as well as taking it easier on some of the steeper downhill sections, but all the work is worth it, as it means you get to see the great views and run the balcony paths! To help you improve your technique our experienced and qualified Run Leaders will offer trail running technique instruction during the weekend as well as information about the environment you are running through, from edible plants to what to do in survival situations. The Run Leader will route find and as with all our running adventures you will be running as part of a team. This adventure can also be easily booked for a private group, or as a bespoke 1:1 guided tour.
